Home, School and Community Liaison Person (HSCL)

The role of the HSCL is to promote partnership between home, school and the community with an overall aim of ensuring children gain the maximum benefit from their time in Our Lady’s School.

A huge focus of the role involves improving school attendance and participation so that

all children transfer to second level and reach their full potential. If children are not in school, teaching and learning cannot happen.

Facilitating parental involvement in school life is a significant part of the role. Coordinating and presenting parent courses that support parents/guardians in

building their skills as the primary educators of children is another aspect of the HSCL’s role. The HSCL also creates opportunities for parents/guardians to

come into the school and support the children’s learning in class through initiatives such as Maths For Fun, Chess Classes, Crocheting classes and Paired Reading.

Another part of the role of the HSCL is visiting families in their homes to support them with any challenges they may be experiencing. Each year the HSCL endeavours to visit the homes of all Junior Infant families.
